Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam stated on Monday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is awaiting clearance from their government regarding the Indian cricket team’s tour to Bangladesh scheduled for August this year.Ìý
The Indian national team is supposed to tour Bangladesh for a limited-over series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is.Ìý
However, confirmation of the itinerary remains pending. Speculation exists that India may be hesitant to tour Bangladesh due to the recent political changes in the country.Ìý
But Aminul said that they were having a positive discussion with their BCCI counterparts.Ìý
‘We have already talked about it with the BCCI. There is a positive discussion going on. It will be announced soon,’ Aminul told reporters after a board meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday night. Ìý
‘We will try to play [the series] in the scheduled window. They are very professional and co-operative,’ he added.Ìý
However, the BCB president didn’t make it clear on what grounds the BCCI is raising their concerns or why the tour is still under discussion. When asked if the BCCI is hesitant to tour Bangladesh in August, following last year's July uprising, Aminul maintained a diplomatic stance.Ìý
‘There is nothing to do with August or September. This was scheduled in August,’ Aminul said.Ìý
‘But [in recent times], except for their national teams, there are some concerns [among them]. Their U-23 team was supposed to tour Sri Lanka, but that has been postponed. They are waiting for their government’s [clearance] for some decisions.’Ìý
In a board meeting that ran for more than six hours starting at 3:00pm, the BCB made some other decisions.Ìý
Among those was finalising the window of the next BPL. They said that it would be held in December-January.Ìý
As the contracts with the previous franchises have ended with the last season, BCB will now have to find new ones.Ìý
The chairman of the media committee, Iftekhar Rahman, said that they would hand over the responsibilities to an event-management company for organising the franchise-based T20 tournament.Ìý
Among the other decisions made was the hiring of former ICC Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel to aid in the development of umpires within the country.Ìý
Taufel is expected to enter into a three-year contract, during which his team will focus on the education of umpires, according to the BCB.Ìý
The BCB also announced that it would host an annual award ceremony of which the template was yet to be finalised. Ìý
