Nazmul Hossain Shanto retained the Test captaincy for another year, while pacer Ebadot Hossain returned to the national fold after almost two years, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 16-member squad for the forthcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
After assuming the leadership role in 2024 in all three formats, Shanto already stepped down from the T20 captaincy.Ìý
However, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as the vice-captain, maintaining the leadership pairing that led the team in the previous season.
Meanwhile, Ebadot, who underwent knee surgery in 2023, has returned to domestic cricket for more than a year and a half now.Ìý
But the selectors remained patient with him. Last month, he played for Bangladesh ‘A’ against their New Zealand counterparts in a four-day game in Sylhet.Ìý
Wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das and fast bowler bowler Nahid Rana also returned to the squad.Ìý
Both were initially granted NOCs to play in the Pakistan Super League during Bangladesh’s last Test series against Zimbabwe.Ìý
However, Liton didn’t feature in the PSL as he was injured beforehand. Nahid, though, went to the PSL only after playing the first Test of the two-game series.Ìý
Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad, who is yet to make his debut, has been picked again ahead of Tanvir Islam, who was in the squad for the second Test against Zimbabwe.Ìý
Opener Mahmudul Hasan and pacer Tanzim Hasan also made way.Ìý
The first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka, which marks the beginning of Bangladesh’s journey in the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle, will be played at Galle from June 17, while the second match is scheduled to commence in Colombo on June 25.Ìý
Bangladesh will depart for Sri Lanka on June 13.
