Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul on Sunday revealed that Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah are interested in pursuing coaching roles at the international level. Â
Both Mushfiq and Mahmudullah are former captains who led Bangladesh in various formats at different stages of their careers. Â
The 38-year-old Mushfiq is currently playing in Tests, having already retired from the other two international formats. So far, he has played 472 international matches across all formats, amassing over 15,000 runs. Â
The wicketkeeper-batter is four matches away from becoming the first player from Bangladesh to play 100 Tests. Â
Mahmudullah, who is 39 years old, has retired from all three formats. He played 430 international matches, scoring over 11,000 runs. Â
When asked whether the former cricketers in the board were able to give their best in a friendly meeting at the Bangladesh Sports Journalist Association, Aminul told reporters about the future direction the two veterans wish to take. Â
‘Nannu [Minhajul Abedin] bhai was one of the best batters in history. Akram [Khan] bhai was one of the best captains. [Gazi Ashraf Hossain] Lipu bhai and Habibul Bashar, they are both legends. They are the biggest advantages [the board has],’ said Aminul. Â
‘They know the characters of the field, wickets and the dressing rooms. We must utilise these types of subject matter experts. But it’s true that one player won’t be a good administrator or a good coach directly. I’ll try to arrange that,’ added Aminul. Â
He then mentioned the aspirations of Mushfiq and Mahmudullah. Â
‘I want to say this with that goal, [though] I don’t know whether I should say this. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah contacted me before I joined the BCB. They want an international coach,’ said the BCB president. Â
‘Inshaallah we will conduct those training education programmes,’ said Aminul, who was a development manager at the ICC and has worked with several nations. Â
The Bangladesh national team mostly rely on foreign coaches in various categories. However, Mohammad Salah Uddin is currently working with the national team as a senior assistant coach.Â
