Iftakhar Hossain Ifti scored a century to rescue the Bangladesh Emerging team from a precarious position against their South African counterparts on the opening day of the second and final four-day match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
Ifti scored 109 runs from 291 balls while opening the innings, which included fourteen boundaries while Moin Khan contributed 91 runs, falling just nine runs short of a century. Their efforts helped the hosts reach 242-7 in 89 overs at stumps.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost last match鈥檚 centurion Ashiqur Rahman Shibli for a duck and went on to lose four more wickets in the first session, including captain Shahadat Hossain (1) and Md Rizwan (7), leaving them at 58-5.
However, Ifti fought valiantly at the other end, forming a 179-run stand for the sixth wicket with Moin to rescue their side. Moin faced 159 deliveries in his knock that featured 15 boundaries.
But Bangladesh soon encountered trouble, losing both Moin and Ifti in quick succession just before the end of the day鈥檚 play.
Rakibul Hasan was batting on two runs while Ripon Mondol was yet to score.
Andile Mokgakane (3-20) was the standout bowler for the visitors, taking three wickets, while Tshepo Ntuli took 2-63.
The first four-day match ended in a draw in Sylhet.
