
Rain had the final say as the first four-day match between the Bangladesh emerging men’s team and their South African counterparts ended in a draw at the Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.Â
Only 35 overs were possible on the final day, where Bangladesh batters could manage 83-5. Pritom Kumar and Moin Khan remained unbeaten on 21 off 73 and 18 off 44, respectively.Â
Bangladesh started the day on 5-2. In the first over, they lost their captain Shahadat Hossain, who was bowled by Andile Simalane for two.Â
Tshepo Ntuli, then struck twice in the space of six overs to dismiss Aich Mollah (11 off 32) and Ariful Islam (14 off 63). The hosts were 51-5 when the rain arrived, and an early tea break was taken.Â
Pritom and Moin, however, kept the South African at bay in a partnership that spanned 16.5 overs before the players shook hands.Â
Earlier, the Bangladesh emerging team took a 65-run lead in the first innings as they scored 308, after Ashiqur Rahman Shibli’s 104 and then bowled the South Africans out for 243 runs, thanks to a seven-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan.Â
Rakibul was adjudged the player of the match.Â
The second and final four-day match will begin on May 27 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Bangladesh, earlier, defeated South Africa to seal the three-match one-day series 2-1.
