Shorna Akter smashed a 32-ball fifty to secure a five-wicket win for the Bangladesh Emerging Women鈥檚 team against their South African counterparts in the first T20 at the Cox鈥檚 Bazar Academy Ground in Cox鈥檚 Bazar on Wednesday.聽

Shorna came to the crease when the hosts were in a precarious position of 51-5 while chasing 116. She then put on an unbeaten partnership of 67 runs with Farzana Yeasmin, who made 25 off 39.聽


Shorna hit five fours and one six in her innings as Bangladesh secured the win with three balls to spare.

Earlier, the visiting side posted 116-6 in 20 overs, where Faye Tunnicliffe top-scored with 43 off 37. Simone Lourens scored 32 off 32, while Luyanda Nzuza scored 22 off 28.聽

Habiba Islam took 2-17 while Nishita Akter, Sabekun Nahar, and Farazana each took one wicket.聽

The second of the three-match series is scheduled on Friday at the same venue.
