The Bangladesh emerging women鈥檚 cricket team suffered a narrow two-wicket defeat against their South African counterparts in the second one-day and eventually lost the three-match series at the Bir Shreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.
After opting to bat first, Bangladesh were dismissed for 151 in 49 overs, with pace duo Eliz Mari Marx (3-13) and Delmari Tucker (3-22) doing most of the damage.
Captain Sarmin Sultana played a gritty 101-ball 59, Farzana Yeasmin contributed 44 off 84 deliveries and Rubya Haider Jhilik scored 21 while others failed to reach double digits.
In response to the target, the visitors lost early wickets after Shanjida Akther Maghla (2-9) struck twice in consecutive overs.
Ghandi Papama Jafta (52 off 87) and Faye Tunnicliffe (22 off 54) then tried to steady their innings before national team player Shorna Akter removed Tunnicliffe, which triggered a collapse as South Africa became 97-7 at one stage.
However, Ghandi鈥檚 half-century and Eliz Mari Marx鈥檚 unbeaten 31 off 49 took the visitors home in 49.2 overs, despite an impressive bowling effort by the hosts.
Apart from Maghla, Shorna (2-34) and Sabekun Nahar (2-22) took two wickets each for Bangladesh.
The third match will be held at the same venue on May 11.
