The Bangladesh national cricket team started their official practice for the forthcoming Champions Trophy at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
Five members of the squad that was announced last month—Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, Tanjim Hasan Sakib, Jaker Ali Anik, and Mustafizur Rahman—joined the official skill training on the first day. They were accompanied by pacer Mrittunjay Chowdhury and spinner Hasan Murad.
Other members, including captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, are expected to join the training camp today.
Meanwhile, head coach Phil Simmons and senior assistant coach Mohammad Salauddin were joined by pace bowling coach Andre Adams and spin bowling consultant Mushtaq Ahmed.
The national team’s main target will be to shift their focus from the 20-over format to 50-over, as most of the players were
engaged in the just-concluded BPL—the country’s franchise-based T20 tournament.
The training camp runs until February 12, a day before the scheduled departure of the team.
The Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19 to March 9.
Bangladesh will depart for the UAE on February 14, where they will play a warm-up match against Pakistan ‘A’ before their main event.
The Tigers begin their campaign against India on February 20 in Dubai, followed by their Group A matches against New Zealand and Pakistan in Rawalpindi on February 24 and 27, respectively.
