Khulna Tigers captain Mehdiy Hasan Miraz said it was everyone’s responsibility not to bring disgrace to the country’s cricket, as Durbar Rajshahi have been at the centre of the controversy in the ongoing BPL.Ìý
In the latest episode of the squabble of Rajshahi, it was reported on Wednesday that the franchise asked the players to leave the team hotel despite their chances of reaching the playoffs hanging in the balance.Ìý
However, in a press release given to the reporters on their WhatsApp group, Rajshahi said that it was the players who requested a break.Ìý
‘Upon a request made by some cricketers, the Durbar Rajshahi management has decided to give them a three-day break,’ the statement read.
‘The request was mainly made by the players who reside in Dhaka. However, those who live outside Dhaka will be staying at the team hotel in Dhaka along with the foreign cricketers and coaching staff. The players, who have residences in Dhaka, can also check in at the team hotel anyday.’Ìý
Rajshahi finished their group stage with 12 points from as many matches. They have been waiting on other matches’ results, which would confirm their chances of reaching the next stage.Ìý
Earlier, the Rajshahi players boycotted a practice session in Chattogram over their non-payment issue. Things reached a new low when the team's overseas players were absent from a match against the Rangpur Riders in Mirpur.Ìý
Mehidy, who is captaining Khulna, said he feels bad for the players who didn’t get the payments.Ìý
‘Obviously it feels bad,’ Mehidy told reporters on Wednesday before their do-or-die match against Rangpur today.
‘At the end of the day, we play cricket for money. If we don’t get our payment, it’s bad for every player.’
‘If we don’t maintain things well, it will disrepute our cricket. It’s everyone’s responsibility not to bring disgrace to our cricket,’ added the all-rounder.Ìý
Mehidy also mentioned that the players of Khulna received 40 per cent of the payment and hoped to get 30-35 per cent soon.Ìý
He also said that the country is going through a new environment and everyone should support each other.Ìý
‘We haven’t faced such a situation like this before, and it’s a first for every person,’ Mehidy said.
Ìý‘Everyone is going through a new environment, but I think we should support it since you see that gates were broken for tickets.’
‘When a new environment comes, it’s difficult. Things are happening differently this time, but people should support each other. The problems that are occurring, I think the people on the board would manage it well. Ultimately, if things don’t go well, it brings disrepute to all of us,’ he added.Ìý
