Bangladesh women’s Under-19 cricket team began their ACC Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup Super-Four campaign on a dismal note as they lost to India by eight wickets in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

After being asked to bat, Bangladesh started soundly with the openers making 27 before eventually reaching a paltry 80-8 in 20 overs.

India’s Aayushi Shukla was instrumental in dismantling the batting lineup, claiming three wickets for just nine runs.

In reply, Bangladesh’s Anisha Akter struck early, taking two quick wickets to reduce India to 22-2.

However, opener Trisha Gongadi (58 not out) and Niki Prasad (22 not out) steadied the ship, ensuring a comfortable win for India with 7.5 overs to spare.

Bangladesh will look to bounce back when they face Nepal today in their second and final Super-Four fixture at the same venue.
