Dhaka pacer Sumon Khan claimed seven wickets including a hat-trick as Rajshahi were bowled out for 42 runs – the lowest in the history of National Cricket League – on the opening day of the National Cricket League sixth round match at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra on Saturday.

The previous lowest score in NCL was 46 runs scored by Barishal against Khulna Division last year.


A total of 21 wickets fell of the first day of the match as Dhaka also got bowled out for 181 with Jishan Alam scoring 44 and Rony Talukdar 40. Asaduzzaman Payel took 4-31 for Rajshahi. 

At stumps, Rajshahi were 18-1 in their second inning, trailing by 121 runs.

Earlier, Sumon returned a career-best figure of 7-18 in 7.5 overs to become the 15th Bangladeshi bowler to achieve a hat-trick in first-class cricket. 

He dismissed Sunzamul Islam and Mohar Sheikh with two excellent deliveries and then trapped Asaduzzaman lbw to complete his hat-trick. 

Six Rajshahi batters failed to score any runs in their first innings. SM Meherob Hasan scored highest 18 runs, followed by Sabbir Hossain’s 10 while none of the other batters could reach double digits. 

In another match at the at Cox’s Bazar Academy Ground, skipper Naim Sheikh scored an unbeaten 153 off 222 balls including 16 boundaries and a six to power Dhaka Metro to 276-2 against Rangpur.

Wicket-keeper batter Tahjibul Isam also scored 73 runs off 190 deliveries before being trapped lbw by Ariful Haque.

Amit Majumder’s cautious 75 off 199 balls helped Khulna post 204 against Chattogram in their first innings after being invited to bat at the Sylhet Academy ground.

Right-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan (5-48) claimed a five-wicket haul while Ashraful Hasan grabbed three for Chattogram.

 At stumps, Chattogram reached 31-0 and were still 173 runs behind with openers Parvez Hossain Emon (20) and Sadikur Rahman (11) at the crease.

In another match in Sylhet, Barishal scored 258-7 against table toppers Sylhet at the end of first day’s play.

Opener Abdul Mazid’s 78 and Sohag Gazi 43 helped Barishal to cross the 250-run mark. Rejaur Raja picked up three wickets for Sylhet.
