Bangladesh women’s A team suffered their first defeat of the tour when they lost to their Sri Lankan counterparts by 19 runs in the fourth T20 match at the Thurstan College Sports Complex in Colombo on Tuesday.
Rabeya Khan-led Bangladesh have already secured the five-match series by winning the first three encounters.
Put into bat, Sri Lanka at one stage were stuttering at 40-4 in nine overs. But then an unbeaten 46 off 33 balls from captain Sathya Sandeepani helped the hosts reach a respectable total of 124 in the stipulated overs.
Sandeepani added 47 runs with Piumi Wathsala (29 off 29) before having a partnership of 37 off 24 with Malsha Shehani. Shehani scored a quickfire 21 off 14 balls.
Pacer Marufa Akter and leg-spinner Fahima Khatun took two wickets each for Bangladesh A, while pacer Jahanara Alam grabbed one wicket.
In reply, the visitors were also in tatters as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay of six overs with only 21 runs on the board.
Shamima then had a partnership of 35 runs with Taj Nehar but fell after making 38 off 41 deliveries. Her wicket led to a collapse as Bangladesh lost five wickets for just 21 runs.
The visitors never recovered from that and were all out for 105 with 3 balls to spare. All five Sri Lankan bowlers were among the wickets.
The fifth and final T20 match of the tour will be held on Thursday.
