Leaders of the Bandar Rakhkha O Corridor Birodhi Andolan on Friday urged the interim government to scrap the deals with foreign companies to lease the management of two terminals at two ports in the country.
They made the demand at a rally organised by them in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, protesting against the deals.
The interim government, on November 17, in separate ceremonies in Dhaka, signed agreements with foreign companies to lease out the management of the country鈥檚 Laldia Container Terminal in Chattogram and Pangaon Inland Container Terminal in Dhaka.
Addressing the rally as the chair, Bandar Rakhkha O Corridor Birodhi Andolan convener Mohammad Abu Sayeed alleged that the government signed the deals going against the national interests. 聽
He called on the interim government to scrap the deals immediately.
Former general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Ruhin Hossain Prince, said that the people of the country would not accept the unequal deals.
He called on all the left and democratic political parties to be united and wage movements to compel the government to scrap the deals.
Cultural activist Amit Ranjan Dey alleged that the interim government had signed the deals and kept them secret.
He called on the government to publish the texts of the deals.
Leaders of the organisation Anwar Hossain Reza, Jahangir Alam Nannu, Sakender Hayat, and Anisur Rahman, among others, also spoke.
The rally was followed by a procession that paraded different city roads.
