Crude bomb attacks by unidentified miscreants continued on Friday, with two incidents occurring on the day—one in on the metro rail tracks between Kazipara and Shewrapara stations in Dhaka city, and the other in Pabna district.
No casualties and damages were reported in the Dhaka incident, said the police.
The metro rail tracks where two crude bombs were hurled fell under the Kafrul police, said the police.
They also said that the bomb disposal unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit recovered the unexploded crude bombs on Friday morning.
Mass Rapid Transit police inspector (investigation) Sohel Chowdhury said that on information received about 9:00am the bomb disposal unit recovered the crude bombs.
He said that for investigation and identify the miscreants, CCTV footage from nearby buildings were collected.
A series of crude bomb explosions and arson on vehicles, especially buses, have been taking place in Dhaka city and several other areas since the night of November 7, after Awami League, the activities of which are currently banned, had announced protests on social media centring the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict in a crimes against humanity case against deposed prime minister and the party president Sheikh Hasina.
The tribunal on November 17 sentenced Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan to death, while former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun received a reduced sentence of five years in the case for committing atrocities during the July uprising that ousted the AL regime on August 5, 2024.
In Faridpur upazila in Pabna, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in the district reported that unidentified miscreants vandalised the upazila unit office of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and exploded at least three crude bombs at about 12:30am Friday.
Faridpur police officer-in-charge Shakiul Azam said that being informed the police inspected the scene and was investigating the incident.
Upazila BNP convener Jahurul Islam said, ‘There is no party division, grouping or any conflict among the local leaders. It is believed that Awami miscreants may have committed the attack after Sheikh Hasina’s death sentence was passed.’
Some of the party’s local leaders are reported to have dissatisfaction over the party’s nomination for Pabna-3 constituency.
Since November 7, at least 43 crude bombs have exploded and at least 30 vehicles have been set on fire in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country.
