The Chittagong Port Authority of Bangladesh on Monday signed a 30-year concession agreement with Danish company APM Terminals BV — a subsidiary of the Maersk Group, one of the world’s leading integrated logistics firms majority-controlled by the AP Moller Foundation — for the construction and operation of the Laldia Container Terminal.

Under the deal, APM Terminals will design, finance, build, and operate the terminal at Chattogram Port under a Public-Private Partnership framework.

Shipping adviser, retired Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hussain, attended the signing ceremony as chief guest at a city hotel. Denmark’s state secretary for Trade and Investment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lina Gandløse Hansen, and Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Møller were present as special guests.

PPP Authority chief executive officer Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun presided over the ceremony.
