A case was filed on Friday with Shahbagh police station in Dhaka against unidentified assailants in connection with the murder of a Rangpur businessman whose dismembered body was found in two plastic drums near the capital鈥檚 Supreme Court gate Thursday evening.

Deceased Md Ashraful Haque鈥檚 sister Anjira Begum filed the case but no one was arrested until Friday evening, Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Md Khalid Mansur said.

Anjira said that her brother Ashraful, 43, of the Shyampur area under Badarganj upazila in Rangpur, was a businessman and used to supply different commodities, including onions, garlic, chillies and potatoes, across the country from Hili Land Port in Dinajpur.

In the case statement, she alleged that Ashraful, along with Md Jarez, 42, of the same village, left for the capital鈥檚 Sayedabad on November 11 for business purposes. Since then, Ashraful鈥檚 mobile phone was found stitched off.

Ashraful鈥檚 family members suspected that Jarez, with the help of his associates and other unidentified assailants, killed Ashraful with sharp weapons and dismembered his body anytime between 8:00pm on November 11 and 6:30pm on November 13.

OC Khalid said that the police were analysing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and arrest those involved in the murder and dismembering the body.
