Chief adviser’s special assistant for posts, telecommunications and ICT Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb on Tuesday said that all accounts involved in online gambling would be blocked, ensuring fairness and compliance.

He made the remarks while presiding over a meeting titled ‘Actions to prevent online gambling’ at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission auditorium in Agargaon of Dhaka, said a press release.

Taiyeb said that a guideline for media houses on configuring web browsers and AdSense setups has been prepared and is currently under vetting at the information ministry.

The special assistant said that around 5,000 mobile financial service accounts linked to online gambling have already been closed.

‘The government is considering limiting the internet speed of users involved in online betting,’ he said.

Taiyeb further noted that a coordinated national platform is being developed to preserve social stability, protect youth from moral degradation, and prevent money laundering through joint efforts by all stakeholders.
