The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday announced a list of its potential candidates for 237 constituencies in the upcoming national polls, slated for the first half of February 2026, with a noticeably smaller representation from minority communities.
According to the list, the party has nominated only two candidates from national minority backgrounds.
Advocate Dipen Dewan, a former president of Rangamati District BNP and the party’s co-secretary for religious affairs, has been nominated to contest from Rangamati. Saching Pru, former Bandarban District BNP president and current convener — and also a former member of parliament — will run from Bandarban.
Besides, among Hindu nominees, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a standing committee member and former lawmaker, has been nominated for Dhaka-3, while Nitai Roy Chowdhury, a former state minister for youth and sports, will contest from Magura-2.
BNP Secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir read out the names of the potential candidates at a press briefing at the party chair’s office at Gulshan on Monday.
