Four commissioners of the election commission of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Central Students’ Union have resigned.

They submitted their resignation letters to the university registrar on Sunday night, citing their inability to perform the duties due to personal reasons, university sources said.


The SUCSU election commission is yet to announce the election schedule.

The four election commissioners who resigned from the posts of election commissioners are professor Razwan Ahmad of the department of mathematics, professor GM Rabiul Islam of the department of food engineering and tea technology, professor Md Ashraf Siddiqui of the department of public administration and professor Mohammad Monjur-Ul-Haider of the department of anthropology.

The four commissioners told reporters that they resigned from the SUCSU election commission.

Professor Mohammad Monjur-Ul-Haider told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· said that he resigned from the post of election commissioner due to personal reasons.

SUCSU chief election commissioner, professor Abul Mukid Mohammad Mukaddes, however, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Monday that he heard that four commissioner resigned from the election commission.

‘I have not been informed officially so far in this regard by the authorities concerned,’ he said in the afternoon, adding that he was trying to announce a road map of the elections by this week. 

SUST registrar Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Kadir, however, confirmed that the four election commissioners submitted their resignation letters to his office.

‘Their resignation letters already have been reached to the vice-chancellor’s office,’ he said.

Earlier, on October 27, SUST vice-chancellor professor AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury declared a 13-member commission to conduct the long-awaited SUCSU and hall union elections of the university after a gap of 28 years since the last elections were held in 1997.
