Gazipur Agricultural University held a press conference and an exchange of views meeting, highlighting the university’s achievements over the past year, preparations for an upcoming international conference and future plans, at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the university on Monday.
GAU vice-chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman attended as chief guest while pro-VC Professor M Moynul Haque and treasurer Professor Md Safiul Islam Afrad attended as special guests at the programme, said a press release.
Chaired by GAU Outreach Centre director Professor Farhana Yeasmin, registrar Md Abdullah Mridha delivered the welcome remarks at the programme.
GAU VC announced that the university would host a two-day international conference titled Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security in December 12–13.
The event will bring together national and international experts, policymakers and farmers to promote regenerative practices that restore soil health, protect biodiversity and ensure climate-resilient food systems.
Since assuming office in October in the past year, the VC has led GAU through a period of rapid transformation.
The university ranked 1st among Bangladeshi universities and 461st globally in the Times Higher Education 2026 rankings and 77th worldwide in the World University Rankings for Innovation.
Over the past year, researchers developed several innovative crops, including GAU Dhan-3, GAU Wheat-1 and Shapla-1 and Shapla-2, boosting food security and farmer livelihoods.
The university also signed international MoUs with institutions in Japan, Canada, China, Botswana and various UN agencies and expanded outreach through technology villages and a mobile milk testing laboratory.
Professor Mustafizur Rahman reaffirmed GAU’s commitment to transparent governance, climate resilience, and a smart agriculture roadmap, leading toward a modern, technology-driven agricultural future.
