The Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged rape of a young woman by two individuals in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The suspect, identified as Delowar, 35, was detained on Saturday evening from Rajfulbaria area under Tentuljhora union, said Sirajul Islam Sobuj, in-charge of the Tannery Police Outpost under Savar Model Police Station.

The Police said that Delowar, a resident of the same area, was arrested after the victim filed a case on Friday. The victim accused Delowar and another man, Antor, of raping her at her home on Thursday night.

According to police, the woman had developed an acquaintance with Delowar through social media.

They kept in regular contact, and when the woman informed him of her plans to go abroad, Delowar offered to help through his mother, claiming she could arrange the necessary overseas travel.

On Thursday evening, Delowar, accompanied by his mother and a friend named Antor, visited the woman's home. After discussions, Delowar's mother departed, leaving the two men with the woman.

The two men then allegedly raped the woman before fleeing the scene, police said.

‘Based on the complaint, we filed a case on Friday night and arrested Delowar this afternoon. He will be sent to court by Sunday,’ Sirajul Islam Sobuj said. He added that efforts are underway to arrest the other suspect who remains at large.
