A probe committee has been formed to investigate the death of a 13-year-old schoolboy a day after receiving a vaccine dose under the ongoing nationwide Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine campaign.

‘We have formed a seven-member probe committee over the death of the schoolboy who died a day after receiving the vaccine,’ said Rajshahi civil surgeon Dr SIM Raziul Karim.

He said that the boy, who was healthy, fell ill the next day after taking the vaccine and died early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Sohan, son of Md Bellal Hossain of Jiupara village under Puthia upazila in Rajshahi.  He was a class VII student of Sarishabari High School.

Bellal told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that his son developed a fever on Monday, a day after receiving the vaccine.

‘We gave him medicine and water. The fever went down a little. That night he had dinner with us and went to bed,’ he said. ‘Around midnight, Sohan called us. We checked on him and found his fever had returned severely, and he was struggling to breathe,’ Bellal said.

‘After taking the tablet Monax, he slept but about an hour later, he woke up again and said he was dying’ he said.

The family rushed him to Puthia Upazila Health Complex.

‘Doctors began treatment, the child went to the toilet and then suddenly suffered a seizure,' he said, adding that he rushed to the doctor immediately who referred them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

When Sohan arrived at the hospital, doctors declared him dead, the father said in a heavy heart.

‘Sohan had no previous illness except for mild allergies,’ the father said. ‘Officials later came and asked us questions. I will not get my son again. So I do not want my son's body exhumed,’ he added.

Meanwhile, the district administration on Thursday asked the civil surgeon to submit a full report within seven days following proper investigation with comments on the cause of death.Â
