The Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Bangladesh Navy in a joint operation arrested nine members of a criminal group named Zia Bahini along with a large amount of weapons, ammunition and weapons-making equipment at Maheskhali in Cox鈥檚 Bazar on Saturday

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said that a group of armed criminals at Kalarmachhara under Maheskhali in Cox鈥檚 Bazar took the people hostages and occupied their salt fields and shrimp farms, said a press release.


When the people of the area protested against it, the criminal group created panic among the people by threatening them in various ways.

People of the area sought help from the Bangladesh Coast Guard, and the Coast Guard increased intelligence activities in the area and conducted a joint operation in the area.

During the operation, the BCG and the Navy seized 1 foreign pistol, 8 domestic firearms, 8 rounds of fresh bullets, 15 rounds of fresh cartridges, 2 magazines, 13 domestic weapons and a large amount of weapons-making equipment.

The arrested Mohammad Ali, 54, Manik, 27, Gias Uddin, 59, Salauddin, 27, Shahidullah, 52, Sabuj, 27 and Atiqur Rahman, 32, are residents of Kalamarchara while Rizwan, 24, and Nadim Uddin, 35, are residents of Huanak union under Maheskhali.

The process of taking further legal action against the seized evidence and the arrested terrorists is under process, said the press release.
