
Garment labour leaders and professionals on Thursday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the interim government to arrest those responsible for the death of 16 garment labourers in a fire at Mirpur on Tuesday.
Garment Sramik Samhati organized the rally in front of the National Museum where its president Taslima Akhter said that the owners of chemical factory and garment factory built the establishments side by side and they could not avoid the responsibly of death of the workers.
Central leader of Ganosamhati Andolan Firoz Ahmed said that the government should take adequate measures to stop death of the workers in the garment factories.
General secretary of the organization Miznur Rahim Chowdhury demanded adequate compensations for the family members of the deceased garment factory workers.
Chaired by Taslima Akhter, singer Krisnakali Islam, labour leader Kaisari Prodhan Keka, student leaders Swaikt Arif, Megh Maller Bosu and others spoke at the rally.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded several roads of Shahbagh area.
