Chief election commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Saturday vowed to ensure full enforcement of the rule of law in the forthcoming national election.
Speaking at a workshop for polling officials at the Regional Public Administration Training Centre in Chattogram, the CEC said that despite various challenges, the commission was determined to hold a fair, transparent and participatory election.
‘We want to empower presiding, polling and returning officers. Our goal is to create a fully empowered presiding officer panel. Through this election, we want to demonstrate what the rule of law really means,’ he said.
The national polls are slated for February 2026.
Addressing the polling officials, Nasir Uddin said, ‘We are giving you full authority. If anyone of you does not use that authority properly, it will be your fault. If you fail to take appropriate action on time, we will not take it positively. Power is important, but its proper use is also important.’
He also said that as long as the officials carried out their duties within law, the Election Commission would give them full support.
‘Our goal is to hold a transparent, fair and participatory election. For this, the role of trained, neutral and responsible officials is very important,’ he said.
Talking about election challenges, Nasir Uddin said that there were various administrative, legal and technological challenges in organising the election.
However, security is the biggest challenge, he said, adding that coordination between the administration and law enforcement agencies was essential in this regard.
He also mentioned that the commission had already set up a dedicated cell to counter misinformation and artificial intelligence-based propaganda on social media.
The workshop was chaired by Chattogram senior district election officer Mohammad Bashir Ahmed.
