
The police arrested five more activists of the Awami League, the activities of which are now banned, allegedly for disrupting law and order by bringing out a flash procession in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Friday afternoon.
The arrestees include Junaid Sardar, Md Shoyon, Shihab, Sourav and Faisal, said police.
A team of Mohammadpur police station arrested Junaid and Shoyon, while another team of Dhanmondi police arrested the rest three.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for Tejgaon zone, Jewel Rana, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a team of Mohammadpur police station arrested them at the Rapa Plaza Shopping Complex area of Dhanmondi-27 while they were taking preparation to bring out the flash procession there.
About 35 to 40 people were there, he said, adding that police chased them and arrested the two at the spot at about 1:30pm.
Legal actions against them are under process, he mentioned.
DMP assistant commissioner for Dhanmondi zone, Mostafa Tariquzzaman, said that the banned organisation Chhatra League was preparing to hold a procession in front of Saifur’s Coaching Centre in Dhanmondi-27 area at about 1:30pm. Dhanmondi police chased and arrested the three from there, he added.
Leaders and activists of the AL and its associates have recently been staging flash processions across the capital despite law enforcers’ strict stance on such processions.
Earlier, the police arrested five leaders and activists of the AL and its affiliated organisations at different parts of the capital on Wednesday and Thursday for their alleged involvement in disrupting law and order by bringing out flash processions.
