Adviser to the ministries of road transport and bridges and railways Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Wednesday was compelled to take a motorcycle ride to reach his destination after being stuck in traffic gridlock for nearly three hours.
The adviser on the day was on a scheduled visit of the Biswa Road area in Brahmanbaria on Dhaka-Sylhet national highway to inspect the work going on to ease the regular traffic congestion there.
Facing a terrible traffic jam, he rode a motorcycle that took him to the place of his scheduled visit on Biswa Road, photos and videos shared on social media showed.
During the trip, however, the adviser was seen wearing a helmet, but his rider was seen without one.
After reaching the spot, the adviser said that they had planned to construct a flyover in the area to ease traffic congestion.
He also said that mismanagement of the traffic department was largely to be blamed for the congestion in the area, adding that they would solve the problem in quickest time.
Journey on the Dhaka-Sylhet national highway has turned into a nightmare lately, as passengers regularly complain, who also allege that the journey time using the route has tripled due to construction works in the Brahmanbaria-Sarail section.
Before the construction works had started, the Dhaka-Sylhet journey used to take 6–7 hours, but now it often takes 16 hours, according to passengers, transport owners and workers.
On Wednesday, Fouzul Kabir Khan reached Bhairab by train at about 10:00am and from Hotel Ujanbhati in Ashuganj his motorcade started for the three-road crossing on Biswa Road where he was to inspect the ongoing works on the Brahmanbaria-Sarail section.Â
The adviser was caught in a severe traffic gridlock on the highway in Sonarampur and Sohagpur areas in Ashuganj and then in Bertola area in Sarail upazila.
After being stuck in traffic jam for around three hours he opted for a motorcycle ride, while his motorcade and other transports remained stuck in the traffic jam.
Bystanders and others were seen taking his video and photos on mobile.
After reaching three-road crossing on Biswa Road at about 1:00pm, Fouzul Kabir told journalists that traffic congestion on the road caused the demand for train tickets to skyrocket.  Â
He also said that officials concerned were asked to prepare designs to build a flyover in the area.
The adviser was accompanied by Brahmanbaria district deputy commissioner Mohammed Didarul Alam and superintendent of police Ehteshamul Haque, among others.
