The Dhaka railway detective branch police early Tuesday arrested a second suspect in connection with a robbery where passengers were held hostage on the roof of the Mahanagar Express train Saturday night.
The arrested is Alauddin, 19. The arrest was made in the Khilgaon area, based on specific intelligence, said a press release.
According to the release, the assailants took passengers hostage on the train’s roof and snatched their mobile phones and wallets at knifepoint.
Following Alauddin’s confession, the law enforcers recovered the knife used in the robbery from beside the Khilgaon railway line. Police records indicate that the accused is a known criminal with multiple cases, including murder, filed against him.
This is the second arrest in the case. Immediately after the incident, another robber, Nazrul, was arrested red-handed with a looted mobile phone.
The Dhaka railway DB police have confirmed that operations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and recover the remaining stolen goods.
