A JHENAIDAH court on Monday sent three Awami League leaders, including a former upazila chairman, in connection with four separate cases, including the killing of party activists and vandalism and arson at the district BNP office.
Those sent to prison include Jhenaidah district Juba League general secretary Rana Hamid, Harinakundu upazila Parishad former chairman Jahangir Hossain and Rakibul Hossain, an activist of Awami League, activities of which are now banned for atrocities during the July student-led mass uprising.
The accused appeared before the Jhenaidah sadar, Harinakundu, and Kaliganj courts seeking bail in the cases. The court denied their bail applications and directed that they be sent to jail.
Court inspector Muktar Hossain said that the accused surrendered to the court before being remanded to custody.
