The home adviser on Sunday said that the fascists and their aides conspired to ruin communal harmony by attaching beard to the asura’s (demon) face at many puja mandaps during the just-ended Durga Puja celebrations.
There was a link between dishonouring the interim government chief adviser in a neighbouring country and attaching beard to asura’s face at 793 mandaps in the country, home adviser retired Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated.
His remarks came at a press briefing after the core committee meeting on law and order at his ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat.
General diaries were filed with the police stations over asura’s beard, while an investigation was under way, he said.
Replying another question, the adviser said that no arrest was made in this regard, adding that some of the perpetrators had already been identified.
That the accomplices of the fascist were behind the recent turbulence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts had already been proved, he also said, adding that fascist aides were also behind the conspiracy to harm existing communal harmony centring the beard incident.
Collective efforts of all, including the army personnel, law enforcement agencies, and support from the general public had successfully foiled the plot, he added.
He at the time mentioned that the rape allegations that caused a huge uproar in Khagrachari were also found ungrounded, as no evidence was found to support that rape had occurred.
‘But, we have faced the situation in a good manner with cooperation from Bangladesh Army, law enforcement agencies and the common people,’ he added.
Mentioning about the current situation in the region, the adviser said that both the blockade and Section 144 had already been lifted in Khagrachari.
‘Some fascist intellectuals have instigated the matter. But their conspiracy did not succeed,’ he said.
He also said that Durga Puja was celebrated in a safe, peaceful and festive mood like the previous year against all odds and conspiracies.
