
At least six people, including 4 in Gazipur, were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in three districts on Monday.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that two motorcycle riders died in an accident in the Somorsing area under Pubail police station in Gazipur city.Â
The accident occurred in front of Habib Pump on the Gazipur-Gausia Bypass Road on Monday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Shanto, 15, son of Manik Mia of Taltia Purbapara, and Likhon, 21, son of Zaman Mia of Taltia Bathanbari under Pubail police station in Gazipur city.
Quoting eyewitnesses, police said the two were riding recklessly at high speed when they hit a road divider in front of Habib Pump around 1:10pm. Both died on the spot.
Pubail Police Station officer-in-charge Amirul Islam said that after receiving the information, police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi for autopsy.
Earlier on the day, two more people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were killed and at least four others injured in a collision with a pickup van on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur.
The accident took place at Salna in Gazipur city around 8:30am.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Emdadul Haque, 40, a resident of the South Salna area in Gazipur city, and an unidentified woman.
Gazipur Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Mehedi Hasan said a Dhaka-bound pickup van collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw carrying passengers from the opposite direction.
The bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy while the four injured were admitted there for treatment.Â
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a minor boy was killed in a road accident in Pacnh Ani area of Khagkanda union under Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj district this morning.
The deceased was Arif, 3, son of Awlad Hossain of the same area.
‘The accident took place when a pickup van hit the boy while he was crossing the road near his house’, said Saifuddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Araihazar Police Station.
He died on the spot, OC informed. The driver of the pickup van managed to flee the scene.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that an imam was killed in a road accident in the Kachundi bazaar area on the Magura-Faridpur Highway on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Kazi Mukhtar Uddin, 71.
When Mukhtar Uddin was going to the mosque to offer Fajr prayers, an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit him, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Magura 250-bed District Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
After an autopsy, the body was handed over to the family.
