
At least 10 people were killed and five others injured in road accidents in Sunamgnaj, Sylhet, Bogura and Rangpur on Friday.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that four people were killed in two separate road accidents in Sunamgnaj and Sylhet.
The deceased were Abadit Keshba Chowdury, 40, wife of the late Pranay Dash of Ukilpara in Sunamganj town; and her daughter Prathama Chowdhury, 13; a CNG-powered autorickshaw driver Sajal Ghosh, 50, of Nabinagar area in the Sunamganj town; and five-year-old Sadia Akter, daughter of Khalilur Rahman of Bawnhaor village under Jaintapur in Sylhet.Â
Sunamganj’s Jaykalas highway police station officer-in-charge Suman Kumar Chowdhury said that a passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG-powered autorickshaw on Sylhet-Sunamganj regional highway at Nabinagar area under Shantiganj in Sunamganj at around 7:30am.
The auto-rickshaw driver Sajal and its passenger Abadit died on the spot while Prathama died on her way to Shantiganj upazila health complex.
He said that the bus driver and his helper fled the scene.
Tamabil highway police station OC Mohammad Habibur Rahman said that Sadia died at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital early Friday after the battery-run three-wheeler she was riding on collided with a sand-loaded pickup van on Thursday night. Â
The OC also said that the accident also injured Sadia’s three-year-old younger brother Mahin Ahmed and relative Saddam Hossain, 35.Â
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that three people, including a man and his son, were killed and two other members of the same family injured when a sand-laden truck collided head-on with a CNG-powered autorickshaw at Sariakandi in Bogura.
The deceased were Bipul Chandra Das, 38, a resident of Kuthibari village under Saghata in Gaibandha; his five-year-old son Biplob Chandra Das; and the autorickshaw driver Shukur Ali, 40, of Sultanpur village under Shibganj in Bogura.
The injured were Bipul’s wife, Mamata Rani Das, 32, and their daughter Rupa Moni Das, 12.
Sariakandi police OC Zamirul Islam said that Bipul and his family were going to his in-laws’ house in Narchi village by autorickshaw to celebrate the Durga Puja.
He said the truck driver and his helper fled.
In another incident, the BSS reported that three people, including a mother and her one-year baby were killed and three others injured when a sand-laden truck hit a pick-up van at the Damdama area on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway in the outskirts of Rangpur city.
The deceased were Shahina Begum, 28, wife of Motaleb Hossain of the Satdargah area; her baby Walid Hossain Swadhin; and helper of the pickup van Arif Hossain, 20.
The seriously injured pickup van driver Nishat Mia has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital while Shahina’s brother-in-law and his wife were given primary treatment.
Tajhat police OC Shahjahan Ali said that a case was filed in this connection. Â
