At least 15 students, including 14 females and a male, of Islamic University in Kushtia have been harassed sexually allegedly by a fellow female student using fake Facebook accounts.

The incident came to light after the victims lodged a complaint with the university’s anti-sexual harassment committee on Tuesday, seeking justice for what they described as both social and psychological harassment.

The accused, a student of the Public Administration Department of the university, allegedly created multiple fake Facebook accounts and distorted names and photos of her fellow students and circulated obscene, offensive, and defamatory content.

According to the complaint, the fabricated content severely damaged their personal reputation, social standing, and mental well-being.

The students said that they on September 21 took the accused to the police station, where her phone allegedly revealed fake Facebook accounts, AI-generated obscene images, editing apps, and other incriminating material.

They claimed that these confirmed her involvement.

Despite repeated attempts, the accused could not be reached for comments as her phone remained switched off.

Professor Begum Roksana Mili, convener of IU’s anti-sexual harassment committee, said, ‘I have heard about the matter verbally but haven’t received the written complaint yet.’

Once it reaches me, I will sit with other committee members and take a decision in this connection,’ she said.
