Chief justice Syed Refaat Ahmed visited the district and sessions judge court in Barishal Thursday morning.

A seven-member delegation from the United Nations Development Programme was also present during the visit.


Later, they visited various activities, including the court’s legal aid centre and Nyayakunja, for more than an hour.

Regarding the visit, Barishal district and sessions judge Sheikh Faruque Hossain said that the chief justice had been participating in seminars in divisional cities organised by the UNDP.

As part of the programme, the final seminar was held on Thursday in Barishal. Along with attending the seminar, the team also visited the court, he added. This is the second time the chief justice has visited the court.

‘The chief justice expressed his satisfaction after visiting the activities of the court,’ he said, adding that the UNDP delegation also expressed hope that the trial process would be easier for the poor and distressed people of the country.

Following the visit, the chief justice attended a seminar at 11:30am at the hall room of Hotel Grand Park. The UNDP organised the seminar.

Chief metropolitan magistrate Zahir Uddin, chief judicial magistrate Md Masudur Rahman, senior assistant judge Sabbir Mohammad Khalid, first additional district and sessions judge Nusrat Jahan, human trafficking prevention tribunal judge Sohel Ahmed, women and children repression prevention tribunal judge Mohammad Rakibul Islam, District Lawyers’ Association president Sadiqur Rahman Linkon, general secretary Mohammad Riaz Hossain, among others, were present.
