Bangladesh Road Transport Authority chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed on Friday said that he did not want to see any road accidents that claim lives of people and leave family members helpless.

‘We do not want to see any road accidents. We want to restore discipline on the roads and we are working to prevent accidents. For this, everyone’s cooperation is needed,’ he said.


The BRTA chairman made the remarks while addressing a cheque distribution event in Satkhira for families affected by road accidents.

He informed that the BRTA trustee board had distributed Tk 74 crore in compensation cheques among families of road accident victims across the country since 2022.

Tk 26 lakh was distributed at the event held at Satkhira deputy commissioner’s conference room. Families of five victims each received Tk 5 lakh while one injured family received Tk 1 lakh.

Additional deputy commissioner of Satkhira Ripon Biswas, additional superintendent of police Mukit Hasan Khan, and senior BRTA officials were also present.
