Election Reform Commission chief Badiul Alam Majumdar on Friday said that free and fair elections were possible only through consensus.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion held in the morning at the Gangni Upazila Parishad auditorium in Meherpur.
Badiul Alam said that the lower house would be based on constituencies, while the upper house would follow the proportional representation system.
‘Both have positive and negative aspects,’ he noted, saying ‘We believe this arrangement is necessary.’
The Hunger Project Bangladesh’s PFG, Youth Leader, and local leaders of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik, Citizens for Good Governance, participated in the event.
During the session, Badiul Alam, who is also SHUJAN secretary, held detailed discussions with the leaders on election system reforms.
Chief adviser’s special assistant Monir Haidar was also present.
