
The Fire Service and Civil Defence has provided two-day training on fire safety to 40 members of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity concluded on Tuesday.
Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, director general of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, was present as chief guest at the inauguration of the training programme, said a press release.
He highlighted various activities of the Fire Service and Civil Defence to the media persons and answered various questions.
He said, ‘Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence and media workers are the first to go to the scene of disasters and accidents. Therefore, if proper coordination is established between these two professions, it will play a helpful role in their professional excellence.’
General secretary of the DRU Mainul Hasan Sohel said, ‘As this training is beneficial in the personal and family lives of media workers along with assisting them in performing their professional duties, I request the DG of fire service to further increase such training.’
Fire service training, planning and development director Lieutenant Colonel MA Azad Anwar; DRU information technology and training secretary Md Borhan Uddin, joint secretary Nadia Sharmin, along with members of Fire Service and Civil Defence and DRU, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
The two-day training covered fire prevention and firefighting techniques, emergency rescue procedures, first aid for people injured in various accidents, emergency evacuation management from buildings during accidents, what to do before, during and after an earthquake, introduction to equipment used in firefighting and rescue work, techniques for media workers to stay safe at accident sites during news gathering, use of hand-held firefighting equipment, what to do in case of gas cylinder accidents.
The coordinator of the course was Md Shahjahan Sikder, officer-in-charge of the media cell. The trainers were Md Saleh Uddin, Mostafa Mohsin, Anwarul Islam Dolon and Talha Bin Jasim.
