
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday filed a case against a former chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, retired major general M Siddiqur Rahman, allegedly for illegally amassing assets worth Tk 36.15 crore.
The commission also approved a case against six people, including Dhaka South City Corporation’s former chief executive officer and former additional secretary Khan Mohammad Bilal, allegedly for evading Tk 25.13 crore in government revenue through irregularities in LED billboard installations.
ACC deputy director for public relations, Md Akterul Islam, said that the commission approved a case against former RAJUK chairman Siddiqur for amassing assets worth of Tk 36.15 crore beyond his known sources of income.
He also said that the graft body would file the case against Siddiqur for ‘misconduct’ as it appeared that the former RAJUK chief amassed the wealth by abusing his power.
According to the commission’s findings, Siddiqur possesses illegal assets worth Tk 36.15 crore, while he also made suspicious transactions of Tk 177 crore through his 38 bank accounts.
Meanwhile, the ACC approved a case against DSCC former CEO Khan Mohammad Bilal, allegedly for evading Tk 25.13 crore in government revenue through irregularities in LED billboard installations.
The other accused are Md Yusuf Ali Sardar, dismissed former deputy chief revenue officer of DSCC, Md Akhtar Hamid Khan, managing director of TCL Optoelectronics Ltd, Momtaz Begum, owner of Best One, Md Gaffar Elahi, owner of Boishakhi Traders, and Sultana Dil Afroza, owner of G-Tech.
According to the inquiry report, the official rate for allocating LED signboards on DSCC-owned land, buildings, and other government, semi-government, or autonomous establishments within the city corporation area was Tk 20,000 per square foot annually.
However, the accused allegedly manipulated records to show the rate as only Tk 800, causing revenue losses of Tk 25.13 crore to the government.
The commission also ordered the submission of wealth statements to three officials including DSCC deputy revenue officer Dewan Aleem Al Razi, former additional chief engineer Md Asaduzzaman, and revenue officer Md Nasir Uddin.
