Five more deaths from dengue were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, as Bangladesh continues to grapple with a surge in infections during the peak season.
With the latest fatalities, the number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh has risen to 155 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Two of the new deaths were reported in Barishal division, two in Dhaka North City Corporation, and one in Dhaka South City Corporation.
During the period, 636 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, bringing the number of cases to 38,527 so far this year.
According to the DGHS, new cases were reported as follows 鈥� 131 in Barishal division, outside city corporation, 92 in Chattogram, 131 in Dhaka, 105 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 97 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 6 in Mymensingh, 29 in Khulna, 34 in Rajshahi, 7 in Rangpur, and 4 in Sylhet division.
Currently, 746 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, while 1,844 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country.
The report also said that 60.2 per cent of the patients were men, while 39.8 per cent were women.
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people. The DGHS recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries during the same period.
