Vice-chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology Professor Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan at a programme at CUET in Chattogram on Thursday said that to find new knowledge, one must take the help of research.
‘Research requires a lot of time and effort, because research is time-consuming, labour-intensive and difficult. To get the benefits of research, one must work tirelessly day after day. No great discovery is made suddenly or without effort,’ he said as chief guest at the Research Seminar, Project Award and Appreciation Programme 2025.
CUET research and extension organised the programme at the Central Auditorium, said a press release.
‘It should be remembered that even if the results of any research work seem relative at first glance, there are many years of hard work, pursuit and sacrifice behind the discovery of the researcher,’ he said, adding that the researcher must have the power of imagination and creative power.
The researcher needs both creativity and imagination to write a research report properly. Researchers should always work selflessly for the welfare of the larger community and the country, he mentioned.
Among others, Professor Kazi Delwar Hossain, dean of the faculty of electrical and computer engineering at CUET; Professor Asiful Haque, dean of the faculty of civil and environmental engineering; Professor AH Rashedul Hossain; dean of the faculty of science and Technology, Professor Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, dean of the faculty of architecture and planning, were present as special guests at the programme.
The keynote speaker was Md Ataur Rahman, senior lecturer at the school of engineering, RMIT University Melbourne, Australia.
The event was presided over by the director of the research and extension, Professor Sajal Chandra Banik.
Forty-seven project proposal awards were given at the event for the fiscal year 2025-26. In the past fiscal year, 27 teachers were honoured for completing their research projects and finally four best research publication awards were given.
