
Two youths were beaten to death and two others were injured by the local people on suspicion of mugging in two separate incidents at Mohammadpur in the capital on Wednesday.
The deceased are identified as Hanif, and Sujan, both aged between 20 and 22, said Kazi Rafiq Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station.
The deceased were muggers and at least four cases had been filed with the police station against them, he said, adding that there was even an arrest warrant against them.
OC Rafiq said that the incidents took place in Mohammadpur area at about 3:30am and 7:00am on Wednesday.
‘At about 3:30am, a group of local people caught two men during an alleged mugging attempt at Road No 16 of Nabinagar Housing and beat them up, leaving one dead on the spot and the other critically injured,’ he said.
A similar incident took place at about 7:30am on Road No 11 of the same housing area, where one more suspect was killed and another was injured in mob beating, OC Rafiq said.
‘The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for post-mortem examinations and the injured — Sharif and Jewel — are currently undergoing treatment there,’ he said.
Filing a case regarding the incident was underway, added the police official
