
The National University on Friday opened a regional centre in Cumilla Sadar upazila of the district.
While inaugurating, NU vice-chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah said that regional centres were launched in several districts and the authorities had plan to set up more across the country to bring dynamism of the NU.
He also said that the regional centres would alleviate the sufferings of teachers, students and officials of NU affiliated colleges.
The academic activities of NU affiliated colleges in Cumilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur and Feni districts would be managed from the Cumilla regional centre, Professor Amanullah noted.
Following the inauguration ceremony, a discussion was held on Victoria Government College premises with the college鈥檚 principal Professor Md Abul Basar Bhuiyan in the chair.
Mohammad Shafiul Karim, director of NU physical education and cultural affairs office, moderated the programme.
VC Amanullah said that National University was working to transform students into human resources. The university had taken various steps to improve quality of education and implement work-oriented education.
He said that the National University would provide all possible support for overall development of teachers and students of affiliated colleges, adding, The university would be developed as a brand one within a year.
Among others, NU treasurer Professor ATM Zafrul Azam and Cumilla additional deputy commissioner Rajib Al Mahmud were present.
Acting director of regional centre coordination office of NU Nazim Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech.
Principals and vice-principals of 182 colleges and educational institutions affiliated to the NU in Cumilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur and Feni districts, teachers and students of Victoria Government College, directors and officers of various departments of NU joined the discussion.
At the beginning of the discussion, a one minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the student-led 2024 July uprising.
