What was meant to be a December wedding turned into an emotional hospital ceremony in Manikganj on Thursday night, as bride Amrita Sarkar exchanged vows with her injured fiancé, Ananda Saha.
The couple, both from Manikganj district, had originally fixed their wedding date for December 15.
But fate intervened when Ananda was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Dhamrai on August 7 and has since been undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
With both hands and one leg bandaged, Ananda lay on a bed of Afroza Begum General Hospital in Manikganj as the couple tied the knot around 9:00pm.
In a video that quickly went viral on Facebook, the groom, his hands wrapped in bandages, is seen applying vermillion to the bride’s forehead.
Family members of both sides said that they decided to bring the wedding date forward to match the auspicious lagna (auspicious hour) of Hindu rituals.Â
Ananda’s relatives added that the ceremony was held with the hospital’s approval.
Sirajul Islam, unit head of Afroza Begum General Hospital, said that Ananda had sustained severe injuries to both his hands and one leg.
‘Their lagna was on Thursday night. When their families shared that, we consulted specialists,’ he said.
‘As Ananda’s condition was stable, we permitted the wedding in an unused part of the hospital. We are always committed to serving patients with care,’ he added.Â
