Professor Syed Akhter Hossain has been appointed as new dean of the faculty of computer science and digital innovation at the UCSI University Bangladesh branch.

An acclaimed computer scientist and AI expert, Professor Hossain officially took on his new role on Monday, said a press release.


Professor Hossain is renowned for his research in artificial intelligence, natural language processing and agent-based AI.

He brings decades of experience in education, research, and technological innovation, with numerous international publications鈥攐ver 250 in total鈥攁nd a reputation for advancing science and technology in Bangladesh.

Prior to this appointment, he served as professor and dean at the faculty of science and information technology at Daffodil International University.

His notable innovations include the Bengali Braille Machine, which has significantly improved education for students with eye disabilities in Bangladesh.

His contributions have earned him several awards, including the Digital Innovation Award in 2011, National ICT Award in 2016, and the Best Professor in IT Award from CISO-Asia in 2012.

Professor Hossain is an alumnus of Rajshahi University, with post-doctoral training completed at Lumi猫re Lyon University in France and an academic fellowship from Linnaeus University in Sweden.

His research work has earned him a Google Scholar over 3,000 citations worldwide. He has also been honoured as a top researcher by the AD Scientific Index and received the ACM DeBalsi Award in 2022 at the 42th ICPC World finals.
