
United International University has secured funding of Tk 13 crore for three transformative research initiatives under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation project, supported by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and the World Bank.
These projects aim to address pressing national challenges in healthcare, technology and disaster resilience through innovative research and cutting-edge solutions, said a press release on Monday.
The first project, SmartAMR: Advancing Digital Healthcare with AI-driven Intelligence, led by Tahmina Foyez, associate professor and head of the department of pharmacy, with Ohidujjaman Tuhin, assistant professor in CSE, aims to improve medical adherence, minimise prescription errors, and tackle the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance in Bangladesh.
The second project, AIMScribe: AI-Driven Scribing System with Prescription Counseling Tools, will be spearheaded by Professor Mohammad Nurul Huda from the Ddepartment of CSE, with Professor Kaled Masukur Rahman, head of EEE.
This initiative focuses on streamlining clinical documentation while ensuring safer prescriptions and empowering patients through the use of AI.
The third project, Development of a Modular System for Amphibious Disaster-Resistant Homes, led by Md Saiful Islam, assistant professor in civil engineering, with support from Nazmus Sakib Pallab, lecturer in civil engineering, seeks to design and build sustainable, disaster-resilient housing using bamboo ferrocement panels for flood-prone and vulnerable communities.
The contract signing ceremony was graced by UGC chairman Professor SMA Faiz and UGC members Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Professor Md Saidur Rahman, and HEAT project director Professor Asaduzzaman, along with representatives from the World Bank.
From UIU, the three sub-project managers were present, joined by Md Abdul Moqaddem, treasurer of UIU and Professor Khondaker A Mamun, director, IRIIC and MSCSE programme, UIU.
