Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus has commenced discussions with Jamaat-e-Islami and other political parties on the upcoming national elections and other current affairs.

The meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami began at 4:30pm on Sunday at the state guest house, Jamuna, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Office.

A four-member delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami, led by the party’s nayeb-e-ameer, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, participated in the meeting.

Other members of the delegation included secretary general Professor Mia Golam Parwar, assistant secretary general Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and Hamidur Rahman Azad.

Later in the evening, the chief adviser is scheduled to hold separate meetings with the National Citizen Party at 6:30pm and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party at 7:30pm — both at the same venue.

Although the meeting with BNP was originally planned for 3:00pm, the party’s secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, requested a rescheduling due to a previously planned event marking BNP’s founding anniversary at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Ramna.

The meeting with BNP was subsequently rescheduled.

These meetings are part of the chief adviser’s broader initiative to engage with political stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming national polls.
