
Joint forces on Saturday in a drive busted an arms manufacturing factory in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.
At the time they arrested four men and seized locally made firearms, ammunition, along with a large cache of materials used in making firearms.
The Bangladesh Army and Sitakunda Model Police jointly conducted the drive on a tip-off in the morning in Chinnamul Slum area under Salimpur union in the upazila, said Sitakunda police officer-in-charge Md Mojibur Rahman.
The arrested were identified as Kamrul Hasan Ridwan, 35, Md Ruman, 25, Md Ashik, 35, and Md Amir Islam, 40.
The police confirmed that Ashiq and Ridwan were weapons makers.
According to the police, six locally made firearms, 35 used bullet casings, five rounds of live ammunition, a Chinese axe, 20 machetes, two walkie-talkies with a charger, one megaphone, and four parachute flares were seized from the site.
OC Mojibur Rahman said that the arrested men were charged under the Arms Act and later sent to jail through the court.
He also said that several accomplices managed to escape during the raid.
Efforts were underway to apprehend them, he added.
