Miscreants snatched a detained accused by attacking the police on Thursday night in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
The snatched accused has been identified as Mamun Al Mujahid alias Sumon.
Five members of the District Detective Branch of police were injured in the attack occurred at about 8:30pm on Sreepur-Mawna Road, near the Tengra crossing, said Sreepur police officer-in-charge Muhammad Abdul Barik.
The miscreants also vandalised two police vehicles at the time, he said.
The OC said that the DB Police arrested Mujahid, a resident of Pathantek village in Barami union, at about 7:00pm from Trimohoni Bridge area.聽
As they were transporting the suspect, Mamun鈥檚 associates launched a series of attacks in several points, including Barami and Satkhamaire CCDB areas, before finally cornering the law enforcers at Tengra, the OC said, adding that five police officers were injured in the attacks.聽
The injured sub-inspectors are Mohammad Nazmul Islam, 40, and Shafayat Osman, 34, and assistant sub-inspectors Emdadul Haq Khan, 37, Shahidul Islam, 38, and Emdadul Haq, 48.
They were treated at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.聽聽 The police said that Mujahid, 35, was an accused in several arms cases.
