At least 10 individuals, including six students and four policemen, were injured during clashes between Dhaka College and Dhaka City College in Science Laboratory area on Thursday, causing severe traffic congestion in the busy area.

New Market police station officer-in-charge Mahfuzul Haque said that students from the two colleges were locked in a clash at about 11:30am.


‘Then, chase-counter chase occurred several times while students from the both sides hurled brickbats at each other,’ he said, adding that at least six students and four policemen were injured in the clash.

Among the injured students, four are from Dhaka City College and two are from Dhaka College.

‘Police used some sound grenades to disperse the students from the road. The situation was brought under control at about 2:00pm,’ OC Mahfuzul said, adding that police were deployed in Science Laboratory area.

The clash occurred after some City College students reportedly beat up several Dhaka College students over seating arrangements at a coaching centre on Tuesday, according to the police.
