The Bangladesh Army on Saturday night recovered about 1,100 sharp weapons, including samurai swords, machetes, Chinese axes, local axes, knives, and meat hammers, conducting a raid at several shops in the capital’s New Market area and arrested nine people over their involvement in selling and supplying such weapons.
Addressing a press conference at about 11:30pm on Saturday at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Army Camp, 46 Independent Infantry Brigade Daring Tigers commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Nazim Uddin said that they came to know about a place where sharp weapons were secretly sold and supplied to crime suspects.
‘Different suspects also admitted about the place,’ he said.
New Market police station officer-in-charge charge AKM Mahfuzul Haque said that police filed a case under the Arms Act on Sunday.
‘We will produce the arrested before a Dhaka court today,’ he added.
